Many of you have heard about our little accident this week, but I wanted to include it as a "memory" although it will never be forgotten. Maybe this will help Delaney understand someday why her momma has so many grey hairs. After Gary came home Wednesday night we took Delaney out in the yard to play. I came inside early and checked the missed calls on my cell phone. While doing this I started hearing Gary yelling my name as loud as he could. I could hear the panic in his voice. My heart sunk to my stomach. I had no idea what had happened and I have NEVER Gary sound like this before. I have never seen him ruffled, panicked, scared....NEVER! I could not see them yet so I had imagined the worst. It was truly the most terrifying moment of my life. I could not breathe. We finally met each other as he came barreling in the house. He was holding Delaney and all I could see was her blood everywhere. On Gary's face, on both their clothes, his hands and her entire head. Luckily she was screaming. We didn't even look at what had happened, I just saw the blood and said we need to go. We booked it to the closest ER. I cried the whole way and prayed that everything was going to be okay. Poor Delaney cried the whole way too. When we got there we were seen pretty quickly and the nurses cleaned her head up right away. I finally took a deep breath when we saw the small laceration. Thank God it was nothing more. Her poor head was very swollen and she had a big abrasion underneath the laceration. She screamed for almost an hour. Finally a little apple juice made her stop and then she was just irritable and tired. She was so cute, she kept taking Gary's hat off and putting it on her head backwards. Gary does this to her all the time but I have never seen her do it herself. I tried not to let her too much because I didn't want her to irritate her wound but it was one of the only things that made her happy and it was so sweet. She was so strong and did so good. We were able to use a topical numbing medication before they put three staples in her head to close the wound. All the nurses warned how bad it was going to be. I was prepared to cry some more so I let Gary hold her while they did it. She hardly even cried and sat pretty still for the doctor. I was so surprised how easily it worked out. The nurses even commented that she must have been numbed well or it wouldn't have been so pleasant. She is such an amazing little girl. Holding her screaming bloody little self in the ER is something I never want to do again but am so thankful Gary and I were the ones there with her. When we got home she played and was back to old self in no time. I absolutely hate seeing and feeling the staples in her perfect little head. It is such a weird thing. She has been doing great though and the site looks amazingly well so hopefully she will be all healed up soon. We think Dewey's tooth or collar got her head while he was fetching a Frisbee close to Delaney. Gary says he doesn't really know how it happened. The yard would have been the last place we would have thought something bad would happen.
We learned a lot from our little accident. Gary and I were so scared and even more thankful for our baby girl being okay. I know this is probably the first of many accidents, she is an Ausman, but I hope God continues to protect our family and keep our children safe. We are so blessed that so far this has been the only medical issue we have had, I know there are many other children who go through injuries and illness much more often. I can't say enough how blessed we are.
After she was all cleaned up
I normally would never include a picture of myself looking so "wonderful", but it was part of the experience and look at her poor pouty lip. I had only slept for about 2 hours and had been awake for like 35 hours since I worked the night before, and the crying didn't help. It's safe to say I was completely exhausted after this day.
