Cannon Updates (2 years old)

Hard to believe this little turkey is 2!  Once he turned 2, he turned into a 2 year old!  Like for real.  He was actually a pretty easy toddler until the magical age of 2.  Right at 2 he learned how to open doors, decided it was time to potty train himself, learned how to get what he wants by crying, helps himself to all the food he can get his hands on, and is more destructive than a bomb.  I guess you could say he is a typical 2 year old boy now.  He does balance it out with lots of sweetness and love.  He is still my cuddly one and will almost always take a break to give me a kiss, hug, or snuggle.

On a daily basis he has some fairly eventful injury.  Yesterday it was falling off of something he was using to climb the shelves in the pantry.  He put his tooth threw his lip and was bleeding everywhere.  This was followed by falling outside and getting a goose egg on his head.  And both just a day after kissing the pavement while on his bike.  His nose and lip are a complete scab.  I do not like this part of being a boy mom, but I guess I better get used to it.  Cannon is actually really tough so I know when he is crying it's usually something significant.  Probably more than 50 times a day I hear a large thud, smash, or crash and have learned to wait a few seconds to see if it's followed by his cry.  Usually it only is a time or two, so I have learned to ignore all of the other loud noises.  We are realizing how different of a toddler he is compared to how Delaney was.  We never had to worry about child proofing the doors because she literally never tried to escape or had issues with getting into certain off limit places.  She also never abused markers or crayons like Cannon does.  He is the classic, give me something to write with and I will color on whatever I can, type of kid.  He has done the walls, the couch, himself, and toys so far.

Besides his naughty 2 year old behaviors, he really loves movies.  He will sit and watch quite a bit of a movie if he is interested.  He has gone through phases of non-stop viewings where he practically demands we turn on one of his movies at least once a day.  It started with Frozen, Tangled, Cars, and now it's Planes.  He occasionally asks for "Woody" which is Toy Story to him.  We can't seem to keep him out of the DVD's, but this is a problem we also had with Delaney.  He has even made it to the theater twice and did great.

He is obsessed with toy cars right now.  He has moved on from carrying Frozen figurines and such and now packs cars around most of the day.  He sleeps with them too.

He just adores Delaney and can't doesn't like it when she's not around.  He is known for waking her up from naps or in the morning if he gets bored and I don't catch him first.  His number one word these days is probably "sissy".  It's so cute to hear him talk about her so often.

He is absolutely crazy on his Stridor bike.  Makes me insane!  He doesn't watch where he is going and goes so fast it's crazy.  He often purposely looks back at me, I swear it's just to show off.  He has no fear on it...at all!

He loves to spend time with Daddy outside in the shop or yard.  He also loves to wrestle and play rough with him when he gets home from work.

It'll be interesting to see him with the new baby.  He talks about babies all the time and points them out when he sees them.  He plays with Delaney's dolls and is very nurturing.  I think he'll do great with his new brother.

He is a pretty good mix of a momma's boy and daddy's boy.  He has moments that he favors one of us vs the other but it's pretty consistent.  Delaney doesn't let him get too close to me so he tends to latch on to Gary more. When he's hurt or upset, he prefers me but when he's wild and crazy he's all over Gary.

He started climbing out of his crib before he turned 2.  But he had mastered it like the second time he did it.  We kept it a crib for a few months and just recently decided to convert it to a toddler bed.  He transitioned well and stays in bed when we tuck him in at night.  He usually comes and gets in bed with me in the morning and will occasionally fall back asleep for a little bit before sister wakes up. I love this time with him.

We were not quite ready to take on potty training with him, but he has had other ideas.  He has been very interested in pottying and pooping on the toilet, so we have let him.  It's been kind of a pain but we are proud of him for trying and making the effort.  He is already 10 times harder than Delaney was to potty train and we haven't even begun yet.

His vocabulary has grown drastically.  He talks all day long and is pretty good about communicating his needs to us.   He says "yup" instead of yes or ok.  He sings songs when they come on movies or sometimes while in the car, but he has no clue what the words are.
