Holden Gray is one month old already! Seems to go by faster with each baby:( It seems like he's been in the family forever. He fits right in and is loved so much. The kids still just adore him. And momma is already dreading leaving him for work in a month or so.
Holden sleeps fairly well at night. The worst part is getting him to sleep. It doesn't seem to matter how tired he is or how long it's been since he slept last, I can't get him to sleep before 11:30-every night. It's pretty frustrating considering I am ready for bed at 9 or 9:30. It's 2 hours of lots of feeding, rocking, and crying. He finally decides it's time to sleep, but I have no idea what finally does the trick. He will usually sleep for 3-4 hours, wake up to eat, and usually goes right back to sleep for a couple hours. He wakes up sometime between 5:30-6:30 to eat again and sometimes will go back to sleep, usually in bed with me (I love this cuddle time), sometimes he's up for the day.
He's right in between the kids as far as his snuggliness (I know not a word.) Cannon was super cuddly and wanted to sleep on my chest or curled up next to me at all times. Delaney was the opposite and wanted her space. She wanted to sleep away from me and in her own space. She didn't nap well while being held either. She just always seemed to want to sleep independently. Holden does both. He seems to like his sleep away from me and naps well without being held, but also loves to cuddle sometimes too.
Holden seems to eat all the time during the day. He snacks a lot and doesn't take a full feed. I feel like he eats ever 1-2 hours still. Luckily the kids are pretty understanding of mom needing to feed the baby. Delaney still asks when she can squeeze the milk out herself to give to baby. I have assured her that will never happen!
Holden sleeps quite a bit during the day still. He has no schedule but usually takes one pretty solid nap throughout the day lasting sometimes as long as 3 hours. He usually wakes up somewhere in between those hours to eat but usually goes back to sleep after a few minutes. I feel like he sleeps way more during the day than the other kids did, but I probably just don't remember. He usually takes multiple other small naps throughout the day too. At first we tried really hard to keep him awake more during the day so he'd sleep better. He proved to us that he can't be kept awake sometimes.
He is like his siblings as far as getting bored easily. He's not very content unless he's held, sleeping, or eating. He only stays in his swing, Boppy, or bouncer for about 5 minutes before he's upset and asking for attention. He loves to be bounced in the bouncer just like Delaney and Cannon. We are practically pro's at bouncing a baby while making dinner, getting ready, working at the computer, etc. We bounce it with our feet and it keeps him happy. All 3 kids have been the exact same with this. They all like very vigorous bouncing! They all loved watching the birds spin around when bounced too.
After reading what I wrote when Cannon was 1 month old, I feel like I am repeating myself a little. They seem very similar so far! Holden HATES pacifiers. I can't get him to take one. Period. I have pretty much given up. I guess none of my kids will be pacifier babies.
Gary has given him a couple bottles and he seemed to take them ok so far. Hope it continues and he doesn't struggle too much when I go back to work.
So far he seems to really like the car. He is almost always happy in his car seat, as long as the car is moving!
He seems to really love his brother and sister already. He lays in bed with each of them while we tuck them in at night and he is usually pretty content being next to them. It's really sweet to watch.
He doesn't like tummy time yet. AT ALL.
He makes lots of funny/cute faces. Gary thinks he looks a lot like Cannon in his one month pictures. I see more Delaney in him. He's got a thin layer of dark brown hair. And the same dark blue/gray eyes the other kids had as well. It'll be fun to see who he turns out looking more like.
He lost quite a bit of weight at his 3 day old check. But once my milk came in fully, he made up for it. At 10 or 11 days old he was back to his birth weight and at his 2 week appointment (it was actually closer to 3 weeks) he was up to 10lbs 4oz. On our home scale about a week ago he was 12lbs. I know it's not very accurate but I think he is doing well with weight gain based on his cheek size:)
