26-28 Weeks

Finally onto the last trimester of this pregnancy!  It is feeling much more real these days and the excitement is growing.  So much that I can no longer sleep!  Over the last few weeks I have been feeling much better as far as the nausea.  Unfortunately the nausea comes right back if I don't sleep well, and in the last week I have had horrible insomnia.  Most of it I relate to the pregnancy hormones but I am sure some of it is related to my increased anxiety as the end of the pregnancy seems to be fast approaching.  Even though I feel like there is minimal stuff to do compared to the first baby, I still can't seem to calm my mind at night or when I am trying to sleep during the day for work.  This week I worked 3 nights in a row with less than 5 hours of sleep...total!  And one of my normally 12 hour shifts ended up being close to 16 hours, due to a change of shift delivery.  Normally, I would say that is not possible but for the first time I have proved I can function (minimally) on very little sleep if  I have to.  I felt completely miserable and slept for 15 hours last night (only possible with a little help from Unisom right now) but it's over now and I am really hoping it doesn't happen again.  This little one also must be much higher than Delaney ever was because I have continuous heartburn and am often short of breath, both things that only happened occasionally with Delaney.  Like I have said before, my body does not do pregnancy well.  I try to never take for granted the fact that I have this body that is able to house and birth a baby, but that doesn't mean it isn't hard at times.  With that being said, I spend much of my time these days dreaming about things like what he is going to look like, seeing Gary hold his son for the first time, watching the first interactions of him and his sister...see who could sleep with all those wonderful thoughts running around?!  We couldn't be more excited for May to get here.

I had my 28 week appointment last week with my favorite doctor, the one who delivered Delaney.  It all went well.  Everything looks good still.  I passed my glucose test and got my Rhogam shot.  I did learn I am a little anemic and am now taking iron.  I am hoping once my blood counts go up a little, I will feel a little better too.  The doctor asked my if I had any questions and I told him I did have one.  I asked him, "Why am I so big already?"  He laughed and said cause it's your second kid.  He said it doesn't necessarily mean this baby is any bigger so that is a relief.  He explained to me why we grow so much faster and bigger the second time and told me not to worry about it.  He looked back at my records of Delaney's pregnancy and said I am actually 2 lbs lighter now than I was at this point with her, which he said almost never happens.  My uterus did measure almost 2 weeks ahead though, with Delaney I always measured a week or so behind.  He said we would check this babies weight around 37/38 weeks to see if the baby seems to be extraordinarily large, although it is hard to determine accurately by ultrasound.
